United Kingdom authorizes Ukraine to produce Storm Shadow missiles

The United Kingdom has authorized the transfer of classified plans and a production license for Storm Shadow cruise missiles to Ukraine, enabling Kyiv to manufacture the weapons locally. During a visit to Kyiv on August 24, 2026, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham confirmed that the defense company MBDA will facilitate the necessary information for this domestic production.

This strategic move aims to ensure Ukraine's long-term strategic autonomy. However, it has drawn sharp condemnation from the Kremlin, with Russian officials accusing London of escalating the conflict and threatening potential retaliatory strikes against future production facilities. In response to these threats, the British Foreign Office has held closed-door meetings to alert UK defense companies regarding the risk of Russian sabotage and reprisals.

Beyond missile technology, the UK has also established a partnership with Ukrainian artificial intelligence laboratories to strengthen technological integration between the two nations.
