United Kingdom deploys three of four strategic nuclear submarines

The United Kingdom has deployed three of its four Vanguard-class strategic nuclear submarines at sea simultaneously. This deployment is considered unusual, with naval sources indicating such a concentration of the fleet has not been observed in over five years.

At least one of the submarines is reported to be carrying Trident II D5 ballistic missiles equipped with nuclear warheads, while the others are conducting sea trials or operational preparation activities. The Vanguard-class fleet includes HMS Vanguard, HMS Victorious, HMS Vigilant, and HMS Vengeance. Currently, HMS Victorious is undergoing major maintenance at Devonport, leaving the other three units available for maritime operations.

This increased naval activity occurs amid ongoing maritime tensions and debates regarding the availability of the Royal Navy's deterrent capabilities. The deployment follows recent joint military exercises between the United Kingdom and France involving simulated nuclear attack scenarios.
