United Kingdom doubles sanctions fines to target Russian shadow finance
The United Kingdom is intensifying pressure on shadow financial systems used by Russia to sustain its war economy. UK Chancellor John Healey announced at the G20 forum that the government is doubling maximum fines imposed by the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI) from 50% to 100% of the value of the sanctions violation.
Additionally, the National Crime Agency has issued a national alert regarding the Kremlin-backed 'A7' network. This network is reportedly used to redirect funds, finance public procurement, and utilize foreign banking systems to bypass international restrictions. The UK government aims to assist the private sector in identifying and disrupting these financial networks to ensure Russia faces the full cost of sanctions.
