United Kingdom imposes 31 new sanctions against Russia

The United Kingdom has announced a new package of 31 sanctions against Russia, aimed at increasing economic pressure ahead of winter. The measures target the Russian energy sector, disinformation networks, and individuals accused of human rights abuses.

The package includes sanctions on 23 individuals and entities, as well as eight maritime vessels. The maritime targets include ships from Russia’s “shadow fleet” used for liquefied natural gas (LNG) transport, such as the Chaivo, Portovyy, Aleksey Kosygin, Konstantin Posiet, and Pyotr Stolypin. These efforts seek to disrupt the revenues supporting Russia's military operations.

Additionally, the sanctions target eight individuals involved in the arbitrary detention and torture of Ukrainian civilians, and seven others accused of the indoctrination and militarization of deported Ukrainian children. The UK also identified pro-Kremlin disinformation networks, including several Georgian nationals, for their role in spreading propaganda and legitimizing the occupation of Ukrainian territories.
