United Kingdom faces record dryness and shifting weather patterns

The Met Office has confirmed that July was the driest month on record for England and Wales, while also ranking as the second warmest month ever recorded. This follows a series of five consecutive heatwaves that have left approximately 70 per cent of England and Wales in drought conditions.

Weather forecasts indicate unsettled conditions for the remainder of August. While temperatures are expected to reach around 26C in London, widespread rain and potential thunderstorms are predicted across various regions, including the South West, South Wales, West Midlands, Manchester, and Newcastle.

In response to these shifting patterns, calls have been made for increased climate readiness in the United Kingdom. Proposed measures include creating local 'cool hubs' for extreme heat, improving ventilation and cooling in new homes, providing practical support for farmers facing crop and grazing issues, and enhancing water storage through reservoirs and natural flood management solutions.
