United Kingdom implements ETA requirements for U.S. travelers
American passport holders traveling to the United Kingdom for short-term visits, including tourism and business, must now obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). This digital permission is part of a phased implementation by British authorities to modernize immigration screening and conduct security checks before travelers board transportation bound for the country.
While qualifying American visitors can still enter without conventional visas for temporary stays, the ETA adds a mandatory administrative step. Requirements and exemptions may vary based on nationality, immigration status, and specific travel routes, impacting dual citizens, permanent residents, and connecting passengers.
