United Kingdom reopens market for Argentine poultry products

The United Kingdom’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has formally recognised Argentina as free of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). Following the review of epidemiological data supplied by Argentina’s National Service of Agri‑Food Health and Quality (Senasa), DEFRA lifted all restrictions on Argentine poultry imports. The sanitary classification for farm‑reared poultry meat and game birds was changed from category “D” to “A”, removing the mandatory heat‑treatment requirement. The market opening applies retroactively from 29 April 2026, allowing exports of poultry products produced after that date that meet UK import conditions and are accompanied by the appropriate sanitary certificates. The move follows the recent re‑entry of Argentine poultry into the European Union market and complements Argentina’s restored access to Chile and Peru, expanding its export opportunities to the UK.
