UK and Czechia prepare for temperature drops and unsettled autumn weather
The United Kingdom is transitioning into a colder, more unsettled autumnal weather pattern. Following an unusually warm start to October, a band of rain and cloud is expected to move across the country, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures. By Wednesday, highs may fall into the mid-teens across much of England and Wales, with Scotland seeing temperatures between 10°C and 13°C. The Met Office noted that while the weather is becoming more changeable with wind and rain, there is no current indication of widespread snow.
Longer-term concerns involve the El Niño phenomenon, which experts suggest could disrupt the stratospheric polar vortex. Such a disruption may lead to a more bitter winter with increased chances of sudden stratospheric warming events and colder weather.
In Czechia, a similar shift is forecast. A cold front arriving later this week is expected to end a period of warm, sunny weather, bringing rain, stronger winds, and a temperature drop of up to 10 degrees Celsius. While daytime highs remain above 20°C through Wednesday, they are expected to fall toward 14°C by the weekend, with potential for mixed or snowy showers on the highest mountain ridges by Friday.
