United Methodist agencies to host summit on AI impact

Two United Methodist Church agencies, Discipleship Ministries and United Methodist Communications, are organizing the third annual AI & Church Summit. The event is scheduled to take place from August 24-27, both in person in Nashville, Tennessee, and virtually.

Expected attendance includes approximately 75 in-person participants and over 300 online registrants. The summit brings together a diverse group of theologians, technology leaders, denominational leaders, and Indigenous voices to discuss the integration of artificial intelligence into society.

The theme for this year is ‘human agency,’ focusing on how humans can remain responsible participants in decisions regarding work, relationships, communities, and faith as AI technology evolves. The summit aims to facilitate informed discernment regarding the potential benefits and harms of AI rather than reaching simplistic conclusions.
