United Naga Council condemns Manipur raids, backs NIA probe into pastor killings

The United Naga Council (UNC) condemned recent search and combing operations by central security forces in Manipur’s Naga hill areas, alleging that civilians were targeted while armed groups were left untouched. The council cited the July 29 raids in Noney Sub‑Division, the killing of village guard Lanbilung Riamel and the arrest of Naga leaders as examples of a “vindictive and heavily militarised” approach.

UNC President NG Lorho said the council would extend full cooperation to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in its probe of the May 13 ambush that killed three pastors in Kangpokpi district. He urged the agency to expedite the pending case of six Naga men killed earlier by Kuki militants, warning that inaction could intensify the ongoing Naga agitation.

Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho has accused the KNF‑P faction of Kuki militants of the killings, adding that the violence has shocked the state and its people.
