United Nations General Assembly 81 concludes with focus on AI and global conflicts

The 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) concluded with world leaders focusing on artificial intelligence, the Israel-Palestine conflict, and tensions involving Iran and Ukraine.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that the global future depends on addressing four key challenges: AI, climate change, warfare, and inequality. During the debates, discussions regarding artificial intelligence gained significant momentum, often eclipsing previous focuses on climate change.

Regarding regional conflicts, French President Emmanuel Macron and leaders from Canada, the UK, and Iraq called for Palestinian sovereignty amid the ongoing war in Gaza. In the context of the Ukraine war, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reported that both Russia and Ukraine have expressed interest in a limited ceasefire specifically targeting energy and grain security.

Tensions also remained high between the US and Iran. While leaders exchanged sharp rhetoric, an Iranian official indicated that Tehran is reviewing US proposals concerning the lifting of naval blockades on Iranian ports and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.
