United Nations: 94% of Gaza residents need shelter and basic supplies
The United Nations has reported that 94% of the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip is in need of shelter and essential household supplies. This briefing was provided by spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric in New York during a press conference marking World Humanitarian Day.
According to reports from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, four out of five families are facing critical or catastrophic levels of hunger within shelters. These locations are suffering from severe shortages of fuel, energy, and basic domestic necessities, which significantly impacts the population's ability to cook food, bathe, store water, and manage temperature fluctuations.
Furthermore, the UN noted that ongoing Israeli airstrikes, artillery shelling, and gunfire continue to cause civilian casualties. Recovery efforts are being hindered by restrictions on the entry of machinery, spare parts, and vital materials, making it difficult to clear rubble and recover the bodies of those believed to have died under the debris.
