United Nations allocates $160 million for humanitarian aid in 12 regions

The United Nations has released $160 million from its Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) to provide life-saving assistance across 12 countries and regions facing severe humanitarian crises.

Of this total, $150 million is designated for essential interventions in Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Cuba, Mali, Niger, the occupied Palestinian territory, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Yemen. An additional $10 million has been earmarked specifically to support the urgent needs of people with disabilities to ensure aid is more accessible and inclusive.

UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher emphasized that while the funding is critical, money alone is insufficient. He called for urgent diplomatic action and greater political will to overcome obstacles and secure access to regions like Afghanistan, Sudan, South Sudan, Yemen, and Palestine, where aid delivery is currently being hindered. The UN noted that access barriers are currently affecting 11 million people prioritized for assistance.
