United Nations faces calls for reform amid shifting global power

Eighty-one years after its founding, the United Nations faces significant challenges regarding its survival and the necessity of reform to adapt to a new multilateral landscape. Diplomat and former ambassador Zoran Milivojevic notes that while the organization is frequently challenged by major powers, particularly from the West, it currently lacks a legal or legitimate international alternative capable of facilitating global dialogue.

Milivojevic argues that the absence of a shared system could lead to increased chaos in international relations. He cites UN Resolution 1244 regarding Kosovo and Metohija as an example of the organization's continued legal relevance, noting that while opinions on the resolution vary, its status within the UN framework remains unassailed. The organization's current struggles are linked to the loss of the previous balance of power following the fall of the Berlin Wall.
