United Nations General Assembly highlights climate justice and AI innovation
During the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), leaders from Nepal and India addressed global challenges ranging from climate change to technological innovation.
Nepali Prime Minister Balen Shah emphasized the urgency of climate justice, stating that “climate change does not recognise borders; glaciers and floods do not travel with a visa stamped on a passport.” He advocated for meaningful action rather than mere rhetoric in UN documents. The proceedings also highlighted Nepal’s long-standing role as a significant contributor to UN peacekeeping missions.
Concurrently, the fifth edition of ‘India Day @ UNGA’ was held, organized by the Reliance Foundation, the United Nations in India, and the Observer Research Foundation. The event focused on scaling Indian development innovations, particularly in artificial intelligence, to support the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Sessions explored how AI and innovative partnerships can be adapted across the Global South to foster resilience and prosperity amidst geopolitical and technological shifts.
