United Nations holds event at Ledra Palace for UN Day

To mark United Nations Day on October 24, an event was held at the Ledra Palace in the buffer zone of Nicosia, Cyprus. The gathering included representatives from both sides of the island, as well as various civil society organizations.

Khassim Diagne, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Cyprus and Head of the UNFICYP mission, attended the event. Under the theme “UN Cyprus: Working Together for Peace and Progress,” Diagne emphasized that lasting progress requires partnership, dialogue, and a commitment to mutual benefit.

During the event, Diagne shared a message from UN Secretary-General António Guterres, noting that the UN is more necessary than ever to address conflicts, the climate crisis, rising inequalities, and rapid technological changes. The event featured presentations and information stands showcasing the work of various UN agencies in Cyprus, including UNDP, UNHCR, and the IOM.
