The World Economic Forum has declared 2026 the “Year of Water,” launching a “Blue Davos” agenda that links freshwater access, ocean policy, food security and private‑sector finance. The Forum’s statement says the meeting will focus on “freshwater access and management, blue food security and ocean protection.” Critics note the involvement of former Nestlé chief Peter Brabeck‑Letmathe, who chaired the Forum’s interim board after Klaus Schwab’s resignation, and the broader push to place water under corporate and financial control.
