United Nations Secretary-General clarifies Board of Peace role in Gaza
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has clarified that the US-led Board of Peace will not replace the United Nations' role in the Gaza Strip. Speaking at a press conference, Guterres stated, “The Board of Peace is not replacing the UN,” in response to inquiries regarding the council's authority in the region.
The Board of Peace was established following a peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump, which led to a ceasefire in October 2025. While the plan includes a roadmap for the gradual transfer of control to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, Guterres noted that the Peace Council faces similar obstructions to those encountered by the UN, specifically citing recent efforts to advance the peace plan being blocked by Israel.
