United Nations warns of escalation following US-Iran military strikes

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed deep concern regarding renewed military exchanges between the United States and Iran. Following strikes by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) against Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets in Iran, Iranian authorities reported that at least 18 people were killed and 76 others were injured.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated that Guterres condemns all attacks against civilians and urges all parties to adhere to international humanitarian law, specifically the principles of distinction, proportionality, and precaution. The Secretary-General has called for an immediate cessation of military actions and warned that further escalation could have devastating consequences for civilians, neighboring countries, and regional stability, particularly as humanitarian operations in the area are already under severe strain.
