United Opposition protests Governor's Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The United Opposition has announced a struggle against the imposition of Governor's Rule and emergency measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. During a meeting of the opposition's parliamentary party in the National Assembly, leaders condemned the government's actions as unconstitutional, claiming they occurred despite completed negotiations.
Opposition leaders, including Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Allama Riaz Nasir Abbas, and Mahmood Khan Achakzai, expressed deep concern over the dissolution of the elected provincial government and the arrest of political workers. They specifically condemned the arrests of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders and the elected Chief Minister, Sohail Afridi, describing these moves as contrary to the public mandate and democratic values.
The participants demanded the immediate reversal of the decision to implement Governor's Rule and called for the protection of the fundamental rights of detained leaders. The opposition also warned that such undemocratic steps could exacerbate existing security and law and order challenges in the province. The group declared October 11 to be observed as a ‘black day’ in protest.
