United Rentals faces institutional sell‑off and margin pressure ahead of Q2 earnings
Calamos Advisors LLC reduced its stake in United Rentals (NYSE:URI) by 7,200 shares in the first quarter, cutting its holding to 22,067 shares, a 24.6% decline. Other institutional investors made moves in the same period: AMF Tjanstepension AB opened a position worth about $60 million, while J. Safra Sarasin Holding AG, Applied Finance Capital Management, LGT Fund Management, and International Assets Investment Management all increased their holdings by 86% to 12.3% respectively.
Analysts note that United Rentals’ Specialty segment continues to face margin compression despite strong revenue growth. A forthcoming second‑quarter report will need to show margin recovery, lower delivery costs and better capital efficiency for the stock to earn a rating upgrade. The outlook places pressure on the company to improve earnings quality as investors watch the results closely.
