United Russia loses majority of votes in diaspora polling stations
Exit polls and official data indicate a significant divergence between voting patterns in Russia and those of the Russian diaspora during the recent State Duma elections. While the Central Election Commission reported that United Russia secured nearly 58% of the vote domestically, results from polling stations abroad tell a different story.
Analysis of 27 polling stations in various cities abroad shows that the 'New People' party won the majority of votes in 18 of those locations. In several cities, including Prague, Tel Aviv, and Barcelona, 'New People' secured over 50% of the vote. In contrast, United Russia's share of the vote abroad was recorded at approximately 39.58%.
Independent exit polls conducted by the Vote Abroad project and the Vesna/Progress project further highlight this gap. The Vote Abroad project reported 'New People' at 43% and United Russia at just 5.5% across 27 stations. The Vesna and Progress project found 'New People' leading at every location surveyed, with 47.3% of the vote, while United Russia received only 2.8%. Analysts suggest these results reflect the political leanings of Russians who left the country following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
