United Socialist Party condemns crackdown on Tangier protesters
The United Socialist Party (US Party) in Tangier-Asilah has condemned the use of force and arrests against protesters during recent demonstrations in Tangier. The protests, organized by the Moroccan Front to Support Palestine and Oppose Normalization, were held to mark the third anniversary of the Al-Aqsa Flood and to express opposition to normalization.
The party's regional office reported that authorities used repressive measures against demonstrators, including children, during protests at Sour El Maâkazine and 9 April Square. The party criticized the repeated prevention of peaceful gatherings and the subsequent arrests, calling these actions a violation of democratic rights and freedom of expression.
The US Party has called on local authorities in Tangier to stop the restriction of freedoms, ensure the safety of protesters, and release those allegedly arrested arbitrarily. They further demanded a formal investigation into the reported assaults and excesses to hold those responsible accountable.
