United States Advances Solar Power and Grid Modernization Policies

The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) is urging American lawmakers to expand solar generation and energy‑storage projects, arguing that renewable sources improve energy security and could save billions compared with continued reliance on volatile fossil fuels. SEIA cites polling that shows about two‑thirds of U.S. voters favor legislators who support solar and storage initiatives.

A separate report from the National Clean Energy Technology Center (NCCETC) shows that during the second quarter of 2026, 44 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico enacted or proposed more than 480 grid‑modernization actions. Energy‑storage proposals led the category with 63 actions, followed by interconnection rule changes, utility business‑model reforms and smart‑grid deployments. Policymakers are increasingly using location‑based incentives for distributed energy resources and expanding virtual power‑plant programs to participate in wholesale markets.
