United States and Cameroon launch joint health secretariat

The United States and Cameroon have launched a joint technical secretariat in Yaoundé to oversee a bilateral health memorandum of understanding signed in December 2025. The initiative aims to transition Cameroon toward full autonomy in managing health programs by 2030.

Co-chaired by both governments, the secretariat will coordinate the implementation of health strategies, specifically focusing on sustaining progress in the fight against HIV and malaria while strengthening the national health system. This partnership marks a shift from traditional aid to a model of sustainable cooperation where Cameroon leads the implementation of its own health sovereignty with American support.
