Ecuador security forces and U.S. military arrest 39 in CJNG drug operation
Ecuadorian authorities, supported by the U.S. Southern Command and the DEA, conducted a large-scale anti-drug operation targeting the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). The operation, which followed an eight-month investigation, resulted in the arrest of 39 individuals across the provinces of Guayas, Los Ríos, and El Oro.
Law enforcement officials reported that the dismantled network was involved in the collection, transport, and commercialization of cocaine originating from Colombia. The drugs were intended for shipment via maritime routes from ports such as Guayaquil and Machala to destinations in Central America, the United States, and Europe. Authorities previously seized approximately seven tons of drugs linked to this investigation.
The deployment included over 320 Ecuadorian police officers and 50 members of the U.S. Southern Command. Technological support was provided through the use of drones, including 3D-printed HANX drones deployed by the U.S. Marine Corps, as well as infrared cameras and satellite assistance.
Ecuadorian courts have ordered preventive detention for 36 of the detainees. The U.S. Department of State emphasized that all security cooperation in Ecuador is conducted at the request of the Ecuadorian government and respects national sovereignty.
