United States and European nations conduct Nigerian deportations

The United States and several European nations are conducting enforcement actions involving the deportation of Nigerian nationals.

The US government has released the names and photographs of ten Nigerians currently in detention across various states. These individuals face diverse criminal allegations, including wire fraud, identity theft, drug offenses, child maltreatment, and firearm possession. This public disclosure is part of a US campaign to identify foreign nationals in immigration custody who hold criminal records.

In Europe, a joint operation led by Germany, with support from Austria, Luxembourg, and Hungary, resulted in the deportation of 36 Nigerians. A charter flight transported 41 individuals to destinations including Lagos, Nigeria, and Accra, Ghana. Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner emphasized the government’s commitment to its deportation policy, noting a high volume of removals of illegal residents and criminal offenders during the first half of the year.
