United States and European Union roll out new housing initiatives

The U.S. Congress approved the bipartisan “21st Century Road to Housing Act,” which was signed by President Donald Trump. The bill aims to ease the housing‑affordability crisis by setting legal limits on large investors in the single‑family market, encouraging the supply of new homes, and removing certain regulatory barriers.

The European Commission unveiled its first strategy against poverty, presenting a non‑binding recommendation to member states on combating housing exclusion. The proposal urges countries to adopt a “housing‑led” approach that links stable accommodation with social, health, training and employment services, and to expand social and affordable housing, especially for vulnerable groups such as the homeless, low‑income families, LGBT+ people, migrants, minors, single‑parent households and youth.
