United States and Morocco test long-range missile at new AMTEC facility
The United States and Morocco have conducted the first live-fire test at the newly inaugurated African Multidomain Training and Experimentation Center (AMTEC) in Tan-Tan. Located approximately 200 kilometers from the Canary Islands, the facility serves as a testing ground for advanced military technologies, including drones, artificial intelligence, and autonomous systems.
Between August 3 and August 7, personnel from the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces and the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) participated in maneuvers involving the Anthem, a low-cost, long-range cruise missile developed by Covenant Industries. The test aimed to evaluate precision strike capabilities and validate communication systems, maneuverability, and target acquisition data in real-world conditions.
The AMTEC project, established via a memorandum of understanding on July 13, is intended to accelerate the transition of prototypes to operational arsenals. The complex is designed to include a multidomain training area, a drone academy, and an innovation and experimentation center, with full equipment capabilities expected by 2030.
