U.S. and Nigeria conduct joint military training in Bauchi

The United States and Nigeria are conducting joint military training exercises at Operating Location Bauchi to enhance security cooperation and operational readiness. According to the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), the program is designed to strengthen the Nigerian Armed Forces' ability to respond to regional security threats, including jihadist militias in the north.

The training follows a collaborative model where Nigerian leadership selects specific topics from a list of available U.S. expertise. Key areas of instruction include unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), combat lifesaver skills, tactical combat casualty care, weapons familiarization, camouflage, explosive ordnance disposal, and small-unit tactics.

A significant focus has been placed on drone technology, with U.S. personnel providing specialized instruction to members of the Nigerian Air Force Special Forces Regiment on the technical and tactical employment of unmanned aircraft. This initiative aims to improve interoperability and intelligence sharing between the two nations.
