United States and Venezuela agree to restore diplomatic relations

The United States government has confirmed an agreement with Venezuelan provisional authorities to restore diplomatic and consular relations. This move is part of a broader political transition process in Venezuela.

The U.S. Department of State announced that Washington will support a three-phase plan aimed at stabilizing the country, promoting economic recovery, fostering political reconciliation, and facilitating a transition toward a democratically elected government. Under this agreement, provisional Venezuelan authorities will be able to re-accredit diplomats to the United States and begin the process of re-establishing their diplomatic presence on U.S. soil.

The announcement follows visible changes at the Venezuelan Consulate General in New York. Previously showing signs of deterioration and graffiti, the building's facade near St. Patrick's Cathedral has undergone a complete renovation. Observers noted that cleaning and maintenance work on the site had been underway since late August.
