United States approves $2.68B air defense sale and drone contract for Ukraine

The United States has approved a potential military sale to Ukraine valued at approximately $2.68 billion. This package, processed through the Foreign Military Sales program, aims to modernize and expand Ukraine's air defense capabilities against aircraft, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial systems.

Key components of the proposed sale include missiles designed to be compatible with S-300 systems, GAM-67 munitions, laser-guided rockets, modified launchers, and drone-detection radars. While the notification establishes a maximum estimated value, it does not constitute a final signed contract.

Separately, the US Army has signed a $10.64 million contract with Skyeton Inc., a company based in North Las Vegas, to purchase Ukrainian-made Raybird (ACS-3) reconnaissance drones. The contract was awarded via a fixed-price internet tender with no other participants.

Skyeton is expected to deliver the drones and supporting equipment to the Redstone Arsenal in Alabama by December 15, 2026. The Raybird is a medium-sized reconnaissance UAV that has been utilized by Ukrainian forces since 2018, known for its long endurance and ability to provide real-time imagery from significant distances.
