United States approves major defense sales to Qatar and Norway

The U.S. Department of State has approved two significant potential Foreign Military Sales to bolster the defense capabilities of Qatar and Norway.

In Qatar, the U.S. has approved a possible $4.5 billion sale of up to four Boeing KC-46A aerial refueling aircraft. The package includes Pratt & Whitney engines, defensive systems, training, and logistics support. The KC-46A is designed to provide in-flight refueling, cargo, and aeromedical transportation, which would allow Qatari combat aircraft to operate at greater distances and for longer durations.

For Norway, the State Department has approved a potential $2.3 billion sale of 21 UH-60M Black Hawk utility helicopters. Produced by Lockheed Martin’s Sikorsky, the deal includes mission systems, weapons, and logistics support. The procurement aims to modernize Norway’s vertical lift capabilities and support NATO’s strategic posture in Northern Europe through upgraded tactical mobility and advanced sensor suites.
