Morocco secures 405 million euros for rail and training

Morocco and the African Development Bank (AfDB) have signed two agreements totaling 405 million euros to support national infrastructure and human capital development.

One agreement, valued at 205 million euros, is dedicated to the Railway Infrastructure Development Support Project. This funding aims to enhance the capacity and performance of the Kenitra-Marrakech corridor, specifically through the extension of the high-speed rail line and the reinforcement of existing rail networks. This initiative is intended to improve connectivity between major urban and economic hubs and boost the country's logistical competitiveness.

The second agreement, worth 200 million euros, supports the ‘Cap Compétences 2030’ program. This initiative focuses on professional training and workforce integration, particularly for youth and women. The program aims to modernize vocational training, expand apprenticeship opportunities for 260,000 non-graduates, and accelerate the digitalization of services to better align skills with market needs.

Additionally, the Moroccan government has moved forward with administrative steps for a high-speed rail project between Marrakech and Agadir. Estimated at approximately 55 billion dirhams, the project has been declared a matter of public utility to strengthen the connection between the Souss-Massa region and the national rail network.
