United States beats Bosnia to advance in World Cup

The United States defeated Bosnia 2–0 in the World Cup round of 16 at San Francisco’s Levi’s Stadium, securing its first knockout‑stage victory in 24 years. Balogun opened the scoring with a left‑foot strike before halftime, and Tillman added a second from a late‑area free‑kick. After the match, VAR ruled Balogun’s earlier challenge a red‑card offence, sending him out for the quarter‑finals against Belgium.

Coach Lionel Pochettino praised the win, joined fans in singing “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” and criticised the refereeing decision. The victory sparked nationwide celebration, with fans across the United States gathering in bars and homes to watch. Forward Christian Pulisic was noted as regaining form and confidence, while the team looks ahead to a quarter‑final clash with Belgium.
