United States celebrates 250 years with housing bill and infrastructure focus

The United States marked its 250th anniversary with the bipartisan passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. The legislation, praised by National Association of Home Builders chairman Bill Owens, seeks to expand housing supply by cutting regulatory barriers, encouraging local zoning reforms and increasing both homeownership and rental options to address the nation’s affordability crisis.

At the same time, the American Society of Civil Engineers highlighted the role of engineers in building America’s infrastructure over the past two and a half centuries. ASCE called for sustained federal investment, noting the recent Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is set to expire and urging Congress to enact a new funding bill. The society reported that the nation’s infrastructure received a "C" grade, underscoring the need for continued upgrades to roads, bridges, water systems and other critical assets.

Both pieces reflect a broader push to strengthen the country’s built environment as it looks ahead to future growth and prosperity.
