Central America faces surge in U.S. deportations and policy shifts

The United States is implementing intensified immigration enforcement and deportation measures affecting Central American nations. In Honduras, authorities have received 365 Mexican citizens deported from the U.S. this year, coordinating their transit through the country toward the Guatemala border.

Simultaneously, the U.S. Department of State has certified that Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras have met ten specific conditions—including anti-corruption and human rights cooperation—allowing them to access certain federal funds.

In Honduras, more than 27,000 citizens have been deported since the return of the Trump administration. There are growing concerns regarding the potential for mass deportations following the expiration of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for approximately 55,000 Hondurans. Overall, U.S. immigration control costs have reportedly risen significantly, with agencies managing massive budgets to reinforce borders and execute deportation protocols.
