United States commemorates 250th birthday with concert and radio legislation push

A multi‑artist concert titled “Declaration: Songs of Democracy, Voices of Hope” opened the nation’s 250th‑birthday celebrations at the Wu Tsai Theater in David Geffen Hall. Curated by pianist Lara Downes, the performance featured the American Composers Orchestra, new works such as Christopher Tin’s *The Pursuit of Happiness*, and a diverse line‑up of singers, instrumentalists and choirs who highlighted themes of liberty and the American experiment.

At the same time, radio broadcasters used the anniversary to press for the bipartisan AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act, seeking to protect and modernise AM radio service. The National Association of Broadcasters reported extensive lobbying in Washington, support from members of Congress, and a push for the FCC to update ownership rules that pre‑date streaming and podcasts. The effort was highlighted at the NAB State Leadership Conference and the 2026 NAB Show in Las Vegas, where industry leaders discussed innovation, artificial intelligence and the role of local radio in emergency communications.
