United States commits $7 million to Kenya police modernization

The United States has committed Sh930 million (approximately $7 million) to support the modernization and professionalization of Kenya’s National Police Service. The initiative aims to strengthen institutional capacity and improve the ability of law enforcement to respond to complex security threats.

Launched at the Kenya Police Training College in Kiganjo, Nyeri County, the program is being implemented in partnership with Kenya’s National Police Service and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. The investment coincides with the graduation of over 6,000 newly trained police officers, a ceremony presided over by President William Ruto. The funding is intended to complement domestic efforts to build a more effective and citizen-focused security architecture.
