United States considers MOAB for potential strikes on Iran
The Trump administration is reportedly considering military strike plans against Iran that include the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast, commonly known as the “Mother of All Bombs” (MOAB). According to reports from CNN, military planners have identified potential targets such as Iranian energy infrastructure and nuclear-related facilities, including a suspected underground complex at Pickaxe Mountain.
The MOAB is the largest conventional bomb in the United States arsenal. It is a GPS-guided weapon weighing approximately 9,800 kilograms, carrying roughly 8,480 kilograms of explosives with a blast force equivalent to about 11 tonnes of TNT. While it is not a nuclear weapon and does not produce radioactive fallout, its deployment would represent a significant escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran.
Deployment of the weapon would require a direct order from President Donald Trump. The discussions occur as the United States positions additional military forces across the Middle East amid intensifying confrontations with Iran.
