Zelenskyy proposes Putin meeting at G20 summit in Miami

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed readiness to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the G20 summit, scheduled for December 14-15, 2026, in Miami. Zelenskyy emphasized that the goal of such a meeting should be to achieve concrete results rather than engaging in mere rhetoric, suggesting that energy and grain security could serve as potential starting points for negotiations.

The Kremlin has rejected the proposal, with spokesperson Dmitry Peskov describing a bilateral meeting in the United States as ‘impossible’. Moscow maintains that any high-level meeting between the two leaders must take place in Russia. While the Kremlin has not yet confirmed whether Putin will attend the G20 summit in Miami, US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have recently been engaging with both sides to facilitate renewed diplomatic efforts.

Zelenskyy also highlighted the importance of receiving more anti-missile ammunition, such as Patriot systems, to counter Russian strikes. He noted that Russia produces approximately 140 ballistic missiles per month, creating a significant defensive challenge for Ukraine.
