United States extends travel restrictions on Uganda, DRC, and South Sudan
The United States government has extended travel restrictions on individuals arriving from Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and South Sudan for 30 days. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued the directive on October 11, citing the evolving dynamics of the regional Ebola outbreak.
While acknowledging that Uganda has successfully contained its outbreak, the CDC noted that continued overland travel from the DRC poses a significant risk of cross-border transmission. This risk is particularly high among healthcare workers and in western Ugandan districts that serve as entry points for travelers seeking medical care. The notice notably excludes Kenya, despite a recent confirmed Ebola case there involving an individual who had traveled from the DRC through Uganda.
