United States extradites fugitives to Colombia and Mexico

The United States has completed two significant extradition operations involving fugitives wanted for serious crimes in Colombia and Mexico.

In Colombia, seven individuals were extradited following a five-year investigation. The operation, conducted by the Military Gaula Commands in coordination with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), targeted a transnational criminal network. The group was accused of drug trafficking and money laundering, specifically involving the systematic shipment of narcotics to New York, Florida, and Puerto Rico. The arrests took place across Bogotá, Barranquilla, Maicao, and Cajicá.

In a separate operation, the U.S. handed over six fugitives to Mexican authorities. These individuals are wanted for various serious offenses, including homicide, rape, child sexual abuse, attempted feminicide, and membership in a transnational criminal organization. Among those extradited is Octavio Jorge Cortés Jiménez, who was sought in Mexico City for the attempted feminicide of a receptionist. Cortés was intercepted by the U.S. Coast Guard in waters off San Diego, California.
