United States gasoline prices show significant regional variation
The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in the United States is $4.14, according to AAA. While regular gas prices fell below the $4 mark in late March for the first time since August 2022, regional variations remain significant due to taxes, supply chains, and local regulations.
California currently has the highest average gas prices at $5.78 per gallon, followed by Washington, Hawaii, Oregon, and Alaska. Conversely, the lowest prices are found in Indiana ($3.45), Texas ($3.69), Oklahoma ($3.72), Mississippi ($3.72), and Louisiana ($3.76).
In Southern California, Los Angeles County and Orange County have seen significant price hikes. Los Angeles County recorded its 15th consecutive increase, with the average rising to $5.784. Orange County prices also rose for 15 consecutive days, reaching an average of $5.771. These increases follow a rise in oil prices linked to geopolitical tensions involving Iran.
