United States heat alerts affect 90 million people

In Phoenix, the hottest major city in the U.S., temperatures frequently exceed 45 degrees Celsius. While the city has implemented mitigation strategies, such as appointing a dedicated heat officer, the frequency of extreme heat is increasing. In 2024, Phoenix recorded 70 days where temperatures reached or exceeded 110 degrees Fahrenheit (approximately 43 degrees Celsius), a significant increase from the early 20th century.
