United States imposes fresh sanctions on Hezbollah
The United States has issued new sanctions against Lebanon’s Hezbollah, re-designating the group as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist. This move is intended to formally link Hezbollah’s actions to the Iranian government, specifically noting its service to the Iranian regime under the command of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force.
In addition to the re-designation, the U.S. has designated ten individuals accused of smuggling cash for Hezbollah. These measures are separate from broader upcoming actions the U.S. plans to take against Iran. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicated that he will hold a press conference on Monday regarding what he described as ‘the toughest sanctions in history’ intended for Iran.
