President Donald Trump has signaled a significant escalation in the confrontation with Iran, stating he is no longer interested in reaching a diplomatic agreement, which he characterized as ‘worthless’ for Tehran. Trump asserted that the United States maintains ‘almost total control’ over the Strait of Hormuz while the Iranian economy faces total collapse.

U.S. military operations have intensified, with Central Command (CENTCOM) confirming strikes against Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets, including air defense systems, radar, and maritime capabilities. These strikes were reportedly in response to Iranian attempts to plant sea mines in the Strait and missile attacks on U.S. bases in Jordan. In a new ‘tanker against tanker’ strategy, U.S. forces also targeted two Iranian government oil tankers.

On the economic front, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the continuation of ‘Operation Economic Outcast,’ aimed at isolating Iran through intensified sanctions and tracking IRGC assets. Bessent noted that the U.S. is monitoring financial transactions, such as those involving an Egyptian bank branch in Dubai, to prevent the movement of funds to Iran.

While Trump explicitly ruled out the use of nuclear weapons, he warned that any further Iranian retaliation would be met with even more powerful strikes, suggesting that the current military pressure is only the beginning of a larger campaign.
