United States measles cases exceed 3,000 amid national surge
The United States is experiencing its most significant surge in measles cases in over three decades, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reporting that national cases have exceeded 3,000 in 2026. Public health experts are monitoring the situation closely as uneven vaccination rates across various communities contribute to the spread.
In Georgia, the Department of Public Health (DPH) has confirmed two additional measles cases linked to an outbreak at a metro Atlanta daycare, bringing the local outbreak total to 10 cases. This brings the total number of confirmed measles cases in Georgia to 16 for the year 2026. Health officials advise individuals who suspect exposure to contact healthcare providers immediately and avoid direct contact with others, particularly infants and immunocompromised individuals.
