TRIPP initiative aims to link Azerbaijan and Europe via Armenia
The Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) initiative is gaining international momentum as a strategic multimodal corridor. Designed to connect mainland Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave through Armenian territory, the project aims to expand the Middle Corridor and enhance connectivity between the South Caucasus, Central Asia, and Europe.
Kazakhstan officials have identified TRIPP as a logical extension of the Middle Corridor that could reduce transport distances to European markets by approximately 1,000 kilometers. Kazakhstan has already invested $35 billion in its transport sector over the last 15 years and is evaluating its role in the construction of the new route.
The United States is actively supporting the initiative, viewing it as a tool to reduce geopolitical risks. A $201 million fund has been established to attract private sector investment, with support from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and the Export-Import Bank (EXIM). The project, which includes railway, energy, and digital infrastructure, is expected to reduce delivery times for certain goods by up to three weeks. While the route will remain under Armenian sovereignty, the U.S. will act as a business partner in the unblocking process.
