United States pledges aid to Nepal after devastating flash floods

United States President Donald Trump has pledged full support to Nepal following devastating flash floods in the Rasuwa district near the Nepal-Tibet border. Describing the destruction as ‘extraordinary’, Trump noted that powerful currents and mudflows have swept away even sturdy buildings.

The U.S. State Department has announced $500,000 in emergency aid to be distributed through Catholic Relief Services. This funding is designated for emergency shelter, relief supplies, clean drinking water, sanitation, and health assistance. A disaster response advisor has also been deployed to the region.

There is significant concern regarding the safety of American citizens in the affected areas. While reports vary, the State Department indicates that approximately 90 Americans may be affected, though three citizens have already been safely rescued. The administration, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, has prioritized locating and evacuating any remaining Americans. U.S. embassies in Nepal and China are coordinating with local authorities and tour operators to assist in search and rescue efforts.
